What Is It Like Being A Realestate Agent in Owerri Imo State ?

Our few months working in Owerri as Brokers, we have come to noticed how most Agents are being looked down upon, talked down on and degraded.

Then, we began to observe and figured out its not just about the people but some Realestate Agents are the reason for such let down.

Some Agents exhibit a high level of unprofessionalism, of which the major cause in my observation is because many agents in Owerri aren’t actually Realestate Brokers but just people who see the profession as a side hustle, as an opportunity to make some few side bucks no matter how little, just to make some change and flex for that day then wait the next day for same 💁🏽‍♂

We also observed most of them have to share there Agency Commission (PROFESSIONAL FEE) with either the Engineer who built the house, the Lawyer to the house, the Caretaker or even the Security man or a laborer working in the building, or a woman selling in a batcher next to the gate. How Awesome.

The above individuals feel entitled to get a share off an Agents Commission with the claim that they where around when the deal was closed 🤷🏽‍♂ “anya huru uzo nwere share” like they say.

At this, many do not see it as a Profession, but again, as a side gig. ABSOLUTELY WRONG. and yet “the experience of the Owerri Real-estate Agents”

This one is a big one; Now when it involves the sales of a Property, sometimes the buyer, some of who base abroad, their parents or family will demand to get a share from the commission, yes that is how low it gets.
A Client living abroad sends his Father or Mother to help him or her check out a house or landed property they intend to buy, and these Father/Mother or Brother/Sister arrives for the property inspection,
Now guess what their major concern will be? HOW MUCH COMMISSION WILL BE THERE OWN SHARE!
And with such thoughts in line they neglect the real purpose for there visit which is to verify and get their Son/Daughter the best type of property they require for their specific development…
extremely Shameful yet the “Owerri Real-estate agents Experience”

 

Real-estate is a Career not an opportunity to make some change;
A REAL-ESTATE BROKER is no different from a Doctor, a Lawyer, a Banker and others who get paid weekly/monthly for services Rendered.
The only difference from the above is you can, or not study Realestate at School. and you might, or not get paid Monthly but most cases you get paid for SERVICE DELIVERED. Or you get paid on COMMISSION Bases, which is the most hectic.
to put it right “THE REALESTATE AGENT GET PAID FOR RESULTS”..

This means, you can go a full year without making a penny as a Realestate Broker,
OR
You can turn into a Millionaire in just one single day as a Realestate Broker. ✅
like someone said, As a realestate Agent You can drive a 2005 model Toyota Corolla to work in the morning and drive home with a 2023 Ferrari.

PAY THE AGENTS WHO WORKED FOR YOU.
Dear Clients,
Do Not Negotiate a Realestate Agent’s 10% Commission.
you can Negotiate everything but not an Agents Commission which is mostly pegged at 10% standard almost all over the world.

An Agent goes through so much tedious work seeking out hidden Properties for you, She or He spends time, money, mental and physical energy and resources, sometimes goes for Days searching for what meets your need.

Then all that you the Clients do is drive behind Her or Him straight to the Property of your choice and enjoy the Fruits of an Agent’s long hard-work.

Best you can do is PAY THEM WHAT THEY DESERVE AND DO NOT ASK FOR DISCOUNT. ❌

Some people go behind agents, this is common with many of you clients living abroad, you think it is smart so you do this exact thing of trying to boycott the Agent after S/He has found you a Land or House you want to buy.

It is rather shameful that one lives in an advanced country and chose to bring themselves so low to scam a hardworking Agent struggling to have a decent income in a country as difficult as here we are, where crime is becoming the order of the day. some of the Agents you meet are married women with children, some single moms, some married men with family, some young boys and girls who chose to earn a decent living this hard way. Why use them if you don’t intend to pay them?

everyday in our country Good people turn to bad people and things like this are some of the cause of it.

some of those living Abroad will send their people to go behind an Agent who showed them a land/house just so they could find the owner so they can purchase the property without the Agents knowledge. Ridiculous! this costs them nothing less because they end up paying the Commission they are trying to avoid paying the agents, but they pay it to people who did nothing for them or there people take it.
Then in most cases there own family members scam them and sell them plots in dead locations with no value, no prospect and that cant be developed in years to come. hmmm!!

I have seen this happen over and over again and over again.

Please those in diaspora kindly advice your family or relatives when you sending them to come help you checkout a property you intend to purchase, tell them to focus on the mission of honesty without a selfish/personal interest and not to come behaving like you don’t send them money at all, when you send them for a property inspection tell them to put your interest above there’s and above all because if they make you to buy a wrong property in a wrong location you will never be happy.
I have seen so many abandoned properties littered all over Owerri, some 10, 20, 60% built and the work stopped probably when they discovered developments will take years to get there. Thanks to there Family members.

Again, Do not cheat the Realestate Agents that worked for you, some of them can go a long way to satisfy that pain of betrayal, keep your hands clean of an Agents commission, their words and thoughts have powers both positive and negative. don’t be the reason some struggling family man or woman goes into some bad thoughts. you gain nothing but pennies from sneaking behind an agent to pay for a property you will never have known about if they had not discovered them and shown them to you.

Do not go behind an Agent to buy a house they labored so hard to show you ❌ because you will carry a curse and find no peace within that home you stole(they say a laborer deserves her/his wages).
Respect the labor of a Realestate Broker regardless of how annoying or unprofessional they might be.

They are still your hope in getting your home and your families home.

Note: The moment you consult a Realestate Agent for help to find you a home, this means you are about to be HOMELESS, or you are 80% Homeless and need help.

Appreciate the fact they answer your call to HELP YOU put a roof above your head, and pay them what they worked for.
Don’t behave cheap or immature by trying to evade paying an Agent what they Worked for. Be responsible and be reasonable, be parotic and appreciative, they did you a huge favor and not the other way round.

You can get all you need, by helping a lot more people get what they want.
